Former State Representative ‘Hubie’ Collins Dies at 86

WITTENSVILLE — Former State Representative Johnnie Hubert ‘Hubie’ Collins, 86, died April 21, at Highlands ARH.
Collins, of Wittensville, in Johnson County, married his late wife, Beatrice ‘Bea’ Madden-Daniel May 6, 1959, and the couple had no children.
Collins served the Kentucky House of Representatives since 1991 to 2017, representing district 97, as a Democrat. He was succeeded by William Wells.
During 2013-2014, Collins served on the Education Committee, Natural Resources and Environment Committee and was the Chair on the Transportation Committee.
Collins was a Baptist, and he earned his Bachelor at Morehead State University in 1969 and Master of Arts at Morehead State University in 1971.
In addition to serving as a state representative, Collins was a former teacher, auctioneer, car dealer and real estate broker. He also served in the United States Army. He was a member of Kentucky High School Athletic Association, Johnson Company Education Association (former president), Kentucky Automobile Dealer’s Association, Kentucky Colonel, Kentucky Education Association, National Rifle Association, Odd Fellow and DAV.
Collins is survived by one sister, Carol Magnifico of Lakewood, New Jersey.
Funeral services will be conducted April 26, at 1 p.m., in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with James Kelly Caudill officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.
