Floyd County School District responds to threat at Betsy Layne Elementary School

On Monday, Sept. 23, the Floyd County School District, in coordination with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department, addressed an incident at Betsy Layne Elementary School, involving a juvenile student who is being charged with Terroristic Threatening, Second Degree.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Department, after a thorough investigation, determined that the juvenile had made implicit threatening statements to other students during the school day. Based on this information, the juvenile was taken into custody by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department.

At no time was a firearm discovered on school property, and no students or staff were in any imminent danger during this incident.

The Floyd County School District will continue to work closely with law enforcement as this investigation progresses. Any further information will be shared as it becomes available.
