Two communities joined together Saturday, Nov. 30, in a scrimmage match to honor 19 year-old Kennadi Mollett who was killed in a crash Tuesday, Nov. 26, on Route 52 in Wayne County, W.V.

Two of her former teams, both Martin County High School and Tug Valley had their annual face-off in the scrimmage match known as the Zip Zone Express Tip Off Classic. The game Saturday was renamed in her memory.

Mollett’s former team the Tug Valley Panthers wore shirts in her memory during warm-ups while the Lady Cardinals, who Mollett also played for until she graduated, wore shirts with Mollett’s picture across the back.

Mollett was currently attending University of Pikeville on a cheerleading scholarship and studying nursing.

According to the report from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Kennadi Mollett was killed when the vehicle she was driving and a semi-truck collided. The collision is still under investigation.

The UPike posted “Pike cheer lost one of its own today. To know Kennadi was to love her. She was such a sweet soul. She always had a smile on her face and told the funniest jokes ton make everyone else smile too. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers during this time. We love you, Kennadi.”

Kennadi’s parents wrote “Kennadi was a real life Beauty Queen, she was beautiful inside and out!

She had the biggest heart and loved everyone. She never met a stranger! She had a love for baskeyball, especially Martin County Basketball. She also loved cheerleading and had found her place with the Upike Bears. Kennadi loved her family and friends more than anything. She leaves her heart and smile to all her friends and family, University of Pikeville Family and Martin County Family.”

Kennadi leaves behind her parents, Jeff and Robin Walker and Billy and Christian Mollett and three brothers Brandon, Brody and Bentley.

Services for Mollett were held Saturday, Nov. 30, at Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, while friends were able to visit Friday at the Martin County High School. Burial was in Walker Family Cemetery.

There will be a memorial set up outside the gym at Martin County High School for Mollett, and is expected to be there for at least a few weeks.

Her team number 23 she wore at Martin County will be retired.
