Lawrence County to offer lots of events leading up to Christmas

Lawrence County had its Annual Lighting of the Christmas Tree on Saturday night Nov. 23rd in front of the Lawrence County Courthouse. Children of all ages were able to meet Santa and receive a gift, grab a cookie, cupcake, hot chocolate and ride the decorated Christmas train around town.

Assistant County Judge Executive Vince Doty said there were approximately 250 kids when the event first started at 6 p.m., before dwindling down before it was time for the evening to end.

Upcoming Christmas events and activities starting the month of December will kick off with Holiday Wreath Making at the Lawrence County Extension Office Dec. 2-3. For more info visit their Facebook page.

Friday, Dec. 6, the Lawrence County High School and Louisa Middle School Band Winter Concert will start at 6 p.m. at Hilltop Methodist, Pine Hill Road.

Other events include “A Christmas Carol” production at Mountain Movers Theatre in downtown Louisa on Friday and Saturday Dec 6-7 and Dec. 10-14. For more information visit www.mtnmoverstheatre.com or call 606-331-8932.

Saturday Dec. 7, Lawrence County will be having their 12th Annual Community Country Christmas. This is a free family event at the Lawrence County Community Center on Bulldog Lane, Louisa. This year’s theme is “Follow the Star to Bethlehem”. The doors open at noon. There will be food, gifts music, door prizes and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus.

Mark your calendars for the Annual Lawrence County Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 14. This year’s parade theme is “The Magic of Christmas” the parade will start at 7 p.m. in the Louisa Plaza and end at City Hall.

Tuesday Dec. 17, the virtual show “Behold the Lamb of God” will be at the historic Garden Theatre at 7 p.m.; also on Dec. 17, the “Reindeer Route” will be held in Fallsburg during their community Christmas events, 6-8 p.m. There will be a free Christmas meal served. Wednesday, Dec. 18, the Lawrence County Extension office will have a Meet and Greet with Santa Claus from 6-8 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 19 “Polar Express” will be playing at the Garden Theatre. $5 per ticket. Ticket price includes popcorn, candy and hot chocolate.
