Two men, Robert R. Whitt, 44, of Adams in Lawrence County and Jeffrey W. Pinson, 32, of Inez, were both eligible for rocket docket indictments in Martin County Circuit Court which expedites non-violent felony drug cases to shorten pretrial detention and increase access to substance abuse treatment.
Whitt was indicted on charges of operating on a suspended or revoked license, 1st degree possession of a controlled substance and menacing.
The indictment states that on Oct. 1, Whitt committed the offense of operating a motor vehicle while his operator’s license was revoked by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and was in possession of fentanyl.
Whitt is also accused of committing the offense of menacing by knowingly and unlawfully placing another person in reasonably apprehension of imminent physical injury. His court date for arraignment is set for Nov.16.
Pinson was indicted on charges of 3rd degree possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified) and tampering with physical evidence.
The indictment states that on Oct. 10, Pinson committed the offense of possessing a schedule IV or V controlled substance and unlawfully concealing physical evidence he believed would be used against him in an official proceeding. Pinson is scheduled for arraignment Nov. 6.
(Editor’s note: An indictment is not an indication of guilt but a determination by a grand jury that criminal charges warrant further judicial review.)
