The Kentucky State Police, Pikeville Post was notified at 8:29 p.m. on Monday, October 20, in reference to possible human remains discovered by a hunter in the Inez community of Martin County.
The hunter immediately contacted Martin County Sheriff John Kirk and he, along with deputies, Martin County Coroner Chris Todd and Kentucky State Troopers arrived at 9:30 p.m., to investigate what the hunter reported.
The initial investigation indicates human skeletal remains were located in a wooded area of the hills near Coldwater Road in Martin County.
The remains are believed to be those of a missing man from Inez, since March after police found an ID and food stamp card in clothing with the remains.
The remains were removed by the Martin County Coroner’s Office and will be transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for identification.
KSP Detective Tony Tackett is leading the investigation and was assisted on scene by KSP personnel and Martin County Sheriff’s Department.
