BLAINE —A 1-year-old girl was flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital Monday after being knocked down by a tractor that her grandfather was using to mow the hillside.

Fallsburg Fire Department Chief Chris Jobe said Tuesday that a call came in that a 1-year-old child had been hit by a tractor and that he always has a helicopter on standby for emergencies such as that because minutes matter.

“They were very blessed,” Jobe said. “The other children were playing basketball on the court, and the grandpa was mowing the hillside. The child walked up behind him, and he didn’t see it, and he knocked it down.”

Jobe said that he had seen posts on Facebook regarding the child and from what he understood, it had a broken femur and a broken upper arm, as well as a few bumps and bruises, but it should heal within a couple of weeks.

“I believe they were keeping her overnight for observation,” Jobe said. “Fallsburg, NetCare Ambulance, Lawrence County Emergency Management, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, and Louisa Fire Department came out to help because we had to shut down US 23 to create a landing zone for the helicopter. They flew the child and the mom to Cabell Huntington Hospital.”
