West Carter topples Prestonsburg 58-7

OLIVE HILL — West Carter rushed 18 times for 282 yards and four touchdowns on its way to defeating visiting Prestonsburg 58-7 in a Class 2A, District 8 football game on Friday, Oct. 9. Prestonsburg dropped to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the district as a result of the loss. West Carter moved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the district after notching the win. The Blackcats fell behind early and trailed throughout the district contest. Leetavious Cline, who is among the state's top high school running backs, paced West Carter on the ground, rushing seven times for 140 yards and two touchdowns. In another strong rushing performance for the Comets, Cole Crampton rushed six times for 91 yards. Contributing on the ground for West Carter, Eli Estepp added a 22-yard rushing touchdown. Quarterback Orry Perry led West Carter through the air, completing 6-of-8 passes for 68 yards and three touchdowns. Logan Berry, Blake McGlone and Jackson Bond each hauled in a touchdown pass reception for the Comets. Prestonsburg was limited offensively throughout the Class 2A, District 8 game. The Blackcats rushed 28 times for 102 yards and one touchdown. Prestonsburg failed to pick up any yardage through the air. Quarterback Brayden Slone paced the Blackcats, rushing seven times for 63 yards and one touchdown. Running backs Carter Akers and Ethan Jarvis rushed for 25 yards apiece in the Blackcats' loss. Braxton Collins led the Prestonsburg defensive effort, posting five tackles for the Blackcats. Prestonsburg is scheduled to host Bath County on Friday, Oct. 16.
