PAINTSVILLE — Paintsville outlasted crosstown rival Johnson Central 75-72 in overtime in a 57th District boys' basketball game at Paul R. Setser Field House on Tuesday, Feb. 8.
Recording a double-double, Colby Fugate poured in a game-high 33 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Paintsville to the district win.
Draining over half of its attempts, Paintsville shot 51 percent (25 of 49) from the field. The Tigers shot 50 percent (10 of 20).
Paintsville shot 62.5 percent (15 of 24) from the free-throw line.
The Tigers outrebounded the Golden Eagles 36-26 in the district clash.
Joining Fugate in double figures for Paintsville, Braxton Tharp netted 26 points.
Finishing near double digits, Jase Kinner added eight points for the Tigers.
Johnson Central shot 41.9 percent (26 of 62) from the field in the setback. The Golden Eagles shot 32 percent (eight of 25) from three-point range.
Johnson Central shot 80 percent (12 of 15) from the free-throw line.
Ryleh McKenzie and Grant Rice scored 20 points apiece to lead the Golden Eagles.
Johnson Central featured four scorers in double figures as Ryan Rose and Jacob Butcher netted 13 points apiece.
Rose recorded a double-double for the Golden Eagles, pulling down 10 rebounds.
Following the Tigers' victory in the latest meeting between the two longtime crosstown rivals, Paintsville and Johnson Central split a two-game 57th District boys' basketball regular season series.
