Bulldogs pull away to defeat Floyd Central 91-70
EASTERN — Visiting Lawrence County pulled away to beat Floyd Central 91-70 in a 58th District boys' basketball game on Tuesday, Feb. 8.
After notching the win, Lawrence County improved to 21-5 overall and 6-0 in the 58th District.
The Bulldogs set the tone early, outscoring Floyd Central 24-17 in the first quarter. Lawrence County led 41-31 at halftime and added to its lead after the intermission period. Extending its double-digit advantage after the break, Lawrence County outscored Floyd Central 27-19 in the third quarter.
Lawrence County shot 55.7 percent (39 of 70) from the field un the district win. The Bulldogs shot 25 percent from three-point range.
Current 58th District frontrunner Lawrence County shot 81.8 percent (nine of 11) from the free-throw line.
Controlling the backboards, Lawrence County claimed 45 rebounds.
Lawrence County used a balanced offensive attack to notch the district win with five players reaching double figures in scoring.
Andrew Bloomfield led the Bulldogs, scoring a game-high 19 points. In addition to Bloomfield reaching double figures for Lawrence County, Trenton Adkins scored 17 points, Cody Maynard netted 16 points, Kaden Gillispie added 13 points and Dawson Bellomy contributed 12 points.
Nearly reaching double figures for the Bulldogs, Will Lafferty tallied nine points.
Ronnie Samons paced Floyd Central, scoring a team-best 18 points for Jaguars. Joining Samons in double figures for Floyd Central, Eric Burke scored 16 points and Braden Moore netted 14 points.
