Tigers knock off Bishop Brossart 42-16

ALEXANDRIA — Winning on the road, Paintsville knocked off Bishop Brossart 42-16 in the second round of the Class 1A UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals on Friday, Nov. 11.

The win allowed Paintsville to improve to 6-5. Following the win, Paintsville advanced to the third round of the Class 1A UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals.

The loss eliminated Bishop Brossart from the Class 1A UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals, which opened on Friday, Nov. 4. Bishop Brossart exited the 2022 high school football season 9-3.

The Tigers gradually pulled to beat Bishop Brossart convincingly.

Paintsville rushed 36 times for 196 yards and four touchdowns in the win. Harris Phelps led Paintsville to the win, rushing 21 times for 155 yards and four touchdowns.

Behind Phelps in Paintsville’s rushing attack, Grayson Peters rushed seven times for 45 yards and one touchdown.

The Tigers produced on the ground and through the air. Leading Paintsville through the air, AJ James completed 11 of 14 passes for 172 yards and one touchdown.

Phelps hauled in receptions for 64 yards to pace Paintsville in receiving.

James completed two or more passes to four different receivers.

Austin Allen was on the receiving end of James’ scoring pass.

Defensively, Cain Grim posted a team-high nine tackles for the Tigers while Phelps recorded one interception.

Paintsville is scheduled to visit Pikeville in the third round of the Class 1A UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals on Friday, Nov. 18.
