Sparks named 15th Region Coach of the Year

LOUISA — Lawrence County head coach Sam Sparks has been named the 15th Region Coach of the Year.

Sparks earned the honor from the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association.

In his debut season as Lawrence County head coach, Sparks guided the Lady Bulldogs to the 15th Region softball title. Prior to capturing the 15th Region title, Lawrence County won the 58th District championship.

Under the direction of Sparks, Lawrence County reached the semifinals of the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Softball State Tournament presented by UK HealthCare. Eventual champion Assumption defeated Lawrence County in the semifinals of the state tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs outscored opponents 285-120 in the 2025 high school softball season, which included an 11-game winning streak. Lawrence County compiled a 26-8 record in the 2025 high school softball season.

Lawrence County has won back-to-back 15th Region softball titles. After reaching the semifinals of the state tournament, Lawrence County carried momentum into the offseason and will be looking to claim its third straight 15th Region title in 2026.
