Shepherd clears waivers

BALTIMORE — Louisa native Chandler Shepherd, a right-handed pitcher, cleared waivers and was sent to the Baltimore Orioles' alternate camp site on Thursday, Aug. 20. Shepherd will remain in Baltimore's organization. A 2011 Lawrence County High School graduate, Shepherd made five appearances for Baltimore in 2019, logging three starts. The Louisa native posted a 6.63 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB across 19 innings during the 2019 Major League Baseball season. Shepherd made his Major League debut against the New York Yankees on August 13, 2019. He started his first game more than a month later on September 17, taking the mound for a matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays. Shepherd worked four innings while recording four strikeouts and giving up three earned runs in the game versus Toronto.Prior to pitching professionally, Shepherd starred for the University of Kentucky.
