Shelby Valley shuts out Bulldogs in Lawrence County Farm Bureau Bowl, 14-0

LOUISA — Shelby Valley managed to shut out host Lawrence County 14-0 in the Lawrence County Farm Bureau Bowl at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium on Friday, Aug. 25.

Following the loss, Lawrence County dropped to 1-1.

Shelby Valley moved to 2-0 after notching the win.

Breaking open a scoreless game, Shelby Valley reached the endzone during the second quarter. The Wildcats led 8-0 at halftime.

Extending its lead after the intermission period, Shelby Valley returned to the endzone in the final quarter.

Quarterback Russ Osborne led Shelby Valley to the win. Osborne paced Shelby Valley in both passing and rushing. Through the air, Osborne completed eight of 15 passes for 79 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Osborne rushed 12 times for 61 yards and one touchdown.

Shelby Valley thrived on the ground, rushing 38 times for 209 yards and one touchdown in its shutout win.

Contributing on the ground in Shelby Valley’s victory, Brett Sturgill rushed 13 times for 54 yards.

Brady Bentley emerged as Shelby Valley’s leading receiver, hauling in four receptions for 34 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, Shelby Valley recorded two interceptions.

Lawrence County was limited offensively throughout the bowl game. Cody Crum led the Bulldogs, rushing eight times for 32 yards.

Lawrence County is scheduled to host Perry County Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1.
