EASTERN — Lawrence County battled back from behind to beat Letcher County Central 6-4 in the 2A, Section 8 Baseball Tournament title game at Floyd Central High School on Thursday, April 13.

The Bulldogs plated four runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to claim the win.

Lawrence County outhit Letcher County Central 7-4 and overcame three errors to capture its second straight sectional title.

Talan Pollock picked up the win on the mound for the Bulldogs. Pollock pitched a complete game, recording seven strikeouts.

Pitching in relief for the Cougars, Canaan Herrell took the loss.

Jake Derifield (three hits, one RBI), Will Lafferty (two hits), Braydan Maynard (one hit, one RBI), Cody Crum (one hit) and Abner Collinsworth (one RBI) were each productive at the plate for Lawrence County in its championship-clinching win.

Paul Huff (two hits, one RBI), Clay Hall (one hit), Max Roark (one hit), Quinton Williams (one hit) and Aiden Fields (one RBI) chipped in offensively for 14th Region member Letcher County Central.

Lawrence County will meet DeSales in the opening round of the 2A Baseball State Tournament in Owensboro at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 21.

Lawrence Co. 9, Belfry 6

Lawrence County pushed across three runs in the top half of the ninth inning on its way to beating Belfry 9-6 in the semifinals of the 2A, Section 8 Baseball Tournament at Floyd Central High School on Tuesday, April 11.

The Bulldogs overcame a 5-0 deficit midway through the game to claim the win. Belfry led 5-0 before Lawrence County erupted for five runs of its own in the top half of the fifth inning.

Pitching in relief for Lawrence County, Will Lafferty earned the win on the mound. Lafferty pitched five innings, holding Belfry scoreless while allowing only two hits.

Several players delivered at the plate for the Bulldogs. Lafferty (two hits), Abner Collinsworth (two hits, three RBIs), Braydan Maynard (two hits, two RBIs), Eli Fletcher (two hits, one RBI), Cody Crum (one hit), Jake Derifield (one hit) and Dylan Whitt (one RBI) each aided Lawrence County offensively.

Lawrence Co. 11, Magoffin Co. 1

Lawrence County defeated Magoffin County 11-1 in five innings in the first round of the 2A, Section 8 Baseball Tournament at Floyd Central High School on Monday, April 10.

Braxton Davis earned the win on the mound. Strong from start to finish for the Bulldogs, Davis gave up two hits and zero earned runs while string out two.

Aden Barnett started on the mound for Magoffin County and was stuck with the loss.

Following Barnett, Kaden Litteral pitched in relief for the Hornets.

Davis (one hit), Abner Collinsworth (three hits, one RBI), Braydan Maynard (two hits, five RBIs), Cody Crum (two hits, one RBI), Will Lafferty (one hit, two RBIs), Jake Derifield (one hit, two RBIs) and Ryan Marcum (one hit) made up Lawrence County’s offensive attack.

Barnett (one hit) and Kaden Back (one hit) each connected at the plate for Magoffin County in the tournament game.
