Red Devils knock off Bulldogs

LOUISA — Russell upended Lawrence County in a matchup between two former 16th Region boys’ basketball rivals, defeating the Bulldogs 80-70 on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Lawrence County slipped to 9-9 after suffering the loss.

Russell shot 50.0 percent (25-of-50) from the field in its winning effort. The Red Devils shot 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from three-point range.

Russell shot 78.3 percent (18-of-23) from the free throw line.

Gabe Pridemore led Russell to the win, scoring a game-high 22 points for the Red Devils. Pridemore made four of seven three-point field goal attempts.

Joining Pridemore in double figures for Russell, Jagger Prickett scored 14 points while Tyler Cordial and Taylor White netted 11 points apiece.

The other scorers for Russell were Kaiden Benge (eight points), Corbin McGrath (six points), Shae Burnham (four points) and Ryder Burgess (four points).

Lawrence County shot 44.1 percent (26-of-59) from the field. The Bulldogs shot 40.0 percent (eight-of-20) from three-point range.

Lawrence County shot 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the free throw line.

Kaden Johnson paced Lawrence County, scoring a team-best 21 points for the Bulldogs.

Joining Johnson in double figures for Lawrence County, Hayden Perry scored 17 points while Andrew Ratcliff netted 11 points.

Following Ratcliff, Caden Muncy (eight points), Isaah Hughes (seven points) and CJ Waller (six points) chipped in offensively for the Bulldogs.

Waller excelled inside for Lawrence County, claiming 12 rebounds.
