Pollock, Crum combine to lead Bulldogs on gridiron

LOUISA — Quarterback Talan Pollock and running back Cody Crum combined to lead Lawrence County offensively throughout the 2023 high school football season.

Both Pollock and Crum are seniors.

Pollock, who returned to the field after suffering an injury, led the Bulldogs through the air. The Lawrence County starting quarterback completed 218 passes for 1,572 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Crum paced Lawrence County on the ground, rushing 159 times for 1,035 yards and nine touchdowns.

Leading Lawrence County in scoring, Crum tallied 64 points.

As a team, Lawrence County rushed 403 times for 2,330 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Finishing as Lawrence County’s second-leading rusher, William McDavid rushed 109 times for 581 yards and nine touchdowns.

Following McDavid, Caven Williams rushed 30 times for 367 yards and five touchdowns for the Bulldogs.

Making an impact on the ground as well as through the air, Pollock rushed 76 times for 225 yards and four touchdowns.

Carlo Chicko led the Bulldogs in receiving, Chicko hauled in 36 receptions for 401 yards and four touchdowns.

Behind Chicko, Dalton Runyons, Kaden Johnson, Logan Ratliff and Jake Derifield rounded out Lawrence County’s group of top five receivers.

Lawrence County finished runner-up to rival Belfry in Class 3A, District 8. The Bulldogs, under the direction of Coach Alan Short, compiled an 8-4 record in the 2023 high school football season. Lawrence County lost to Rockcastle County in the second round of the 2023 KHSAA Class 2A State Football Playoffs. Rockcastle County held on to edge the Bulldogs 31-28 in Mount Vernon on Friday, Nov. 10.
