Defending champion Martin County ranked first in preseason rankings

INEZ — Reigning champion Martin County is ranked first in the Bluegrass.com Preseason 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Rankings.

The BluegrassPreps.com Preseason 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Rankings were released on Wednesday, Nov. 22.

Martin County is ranked ahead of Pikeville, Pike County Central, Floyd Central, Lawrence County, Magoffin County, Shelby Valley, Prestonsburg, Betsy Layne, Johnson Central, East Ridge, Paintsville, Belfry and Phelps.

Head coach Jason James guides Martin County, which hosted the Zip Zone Express Tip Off Classic on Saturday, Nov. 25.

After making an appearance in the KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament, Martin County concluded the 2022-23 prep hoops season 24-11.

The 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season opened on Monday, Nov. 27.
