Perry County Central tops Tigers with field goal

PAINTSVILLE — Freshman Ian Montgomery booted a last-second field goal to lift visiting Perry County Central over Paintsville 17-14 in a non-district game at Memorial Field on Friday, Oct. 1.
Following the loss, reigning Class 1A state champion Paintsville dropped to 2-4 in the 2021 high school football season.
For the second straight week, Paintsville was limited to 14 points. Junior running back Kent Phelps continued to pace the Tigers.
Quarterback Chanse McKenzie led Perry County Central to the win. McKenzie rushed 23 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns. Delivering through the air, McKenzie completed six of nine passes for 94 yards.
Ranking as Perry County Central's second-leading rusher, Kobee Eldridge rushed 15 times for 58 yards.
Along with the top two rushers, Elijah Gayhart (40 yards) and Cade Miller (26 yards) contributed for the Commodores on the ground.
Kameron Maggard paced Perry County Central in receiving, reeling in three receptions for 74 yards.
Josh Perkins led Perry County Central defensively, recording 11 tackles for the Commodores in the non-district win.
Paintsville is scheduled to visit Fairview for a Class 1A, District 6 game on Friday, Oct. 8.
