Paintsville rolls past Betsy Layne 55-8

PAINTSVILLE – Paintsville pulled away to beat visiting Betsy Layne 55-8 in the first round of the Class 1A UK Orthopaedics/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl at Memorial Field on Friday, Nov. 20.
The win allowed Paintsville to improve to 6-2 and advance to meet Raceland in the second round of the Class 1A UK Orthopaedics/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl.
As a result of the loss, Betsy Layne concluded its season 1-5.

Paintsville set the tone early. The Tigers scored first and never trailed.
Paintsville rushed 27 times for 347 yards and seven touchdowns in the victory.
Harris Phelps led Paintsville's rushing attack. Phelps rushed five times for 126 yards and two touchdowns.
Luke Hyden added two rushing touchdowns of his own for the Tigers while Nathan Marsillett, Karsten Poe and Justin Ramey contributed one TD apiece on the ground.
Filling in at quarterback for Jake Hyden, who is injured, Poe completed 9 of 11 passes for 170 yards and one touchdown.
Colby Fugate was on the receiving end of Poe's scoring pass.
Zach Taylor paced Paintsville in receiving, hauling in two receptions for 62 yards.
Another receiver for the Tigers, Devin Hall, reeled in four receptions for 49 yards.
Defensively, Luke Hyden, Grayson Peters and Mason Lovely combined to record 20 tackles.
Paintsville is scheduled to visit Raceland in the second round of the Class 1A UK Orthopaedics/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl on Friday, Nov. 27.
