PAINTSVILLE — Reigning 15th Region volleyball champion Paintsville has earned the 2021 AVCA Team Academic Award.

To qualify for the award, teams must have maintained at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2020-2021 academic schoolyear.

Nominations for the award took place throughout the month of June and were accepted by the AVCA.

A total of 17 teams from across the state earned the 2021 AVCA Team Academic Award. The 2021 AVCA Team Academic Award winners were Paintsville, Breathitt County, Caldwell County, Danville Christian Academy, Floyd Central, Great Crossing, Henry Clay, Holy Cross (Covington), Mercy Academy, Newport Central Catholic, Notre Dame Academy, Raceland, Ryle, Sacred Heart Academy, Scott, Warren East and West Jessamine.

High school volleyball teams from throughout the area and around the state will be on the court for season openers in August.
