Paintsville drops game to Pikeville

PIKEVILLE — Paintsville was unable to pull off an upset win on the road as Pikeville prevailed 64-47 in a girls' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Dec. 14.
Under the direction of head coach Kristy Orem, a Paintsville High School graduate, Pikeville shot 42.1 percent (24-of-57) from the field. The Lady Panthers were eight of 27 from three-point range.
Pikeville, which outrebounded Paintsville 35-30, shot 72.7 percent (eight of 11) from the free throw line.
Rylee Theiss recorded a double-double for Pikeville, scoring 19 points and pulling down 19 rebounds.
Trinity Rowe led Pikeville in scoring, netting a game-high 20 points.
Accompanying Theiss in double figures for the Lady Panthers, Kristen Whited added 11 points.
Paintsville shot 35.3 percent from the field. The Lady Tigers connected on only three of 17 three-point field goal attempts.
Paintsville shot 66.7 percent (eight-of-12) from the free throw line.
Emilea Preece scored 17 points to pace Paintsville. Accompanying Preece in double figures for Paintsville, Kylie Kinner netted 13 points.
Nearly reaching double figures for Paintsville, Leandra Curnutte added nine points.
Paintsville is scheduled to meet Pikeville in the opening round of the 15th Region All "A" Classic at Appalachian Wireless Arena on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022.
