Paintsville compiles 3-1 record at Cal Ripken Experience

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Paintsville compiled a 3-1 record at the Cal Ripken Experience during the opening week of the 2021 high school baseball season.

Paintsville 4, Elmwood (Ohio) 0:

Paintsville blanked Elmwood (Ohio) 4-0 in a high school baseball season opener at the Cal Ripken Experience on Monday, March 29.

Zach Taylor was the winning pitcher for the Tigers. Taylor pitched four innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while recording nine strikeouts. The Paintsville pitcher walked one.

In addition to Taylor being on the mound, Ashton Miller, Gunner Collins and Ashton Adams pitched for the Tigers.

Paintsville plated four runs on six hits. Taylor, Miller, Adams, Harris Phelps, Cory Jefferson and Griffin Collins provided one hit apiece for Paintsville in the shutout win.Taylor, Miller and Jefferson drove in one run apiece.

Perennial 15th Region title contender Paintsville was held scoreless as Anthony Wayne (Ohio) pulled away to win 12-0 at Cal Ripken Experience on Tuesday, March 30.

The Tigers were limited to one hit.

Joan Porter collected Paintsville's only hit in the setback.

On the mound for the Tigers, Porter suffered the pitching loss.

Returning to the win column, Paintsville knocked off Myrtle Beach (SC) 14-6 at the Cal Ripken Experience on Wednesday, March 31.

Paintsville plated 14 runs on 14 hits.

Harris Phelps (3-for-5, 1 RBI), Ashton Miller (3-for-4, 2 RBIs), Jonah Porter (2-for-5, 1 RBI), Griffin Collins (2-for-5, 4 RBIs), AJ James (1-for-2, 1 RBI), Zach Taylor (1-for-4, 3 RBIs), Gunner Collins (1-for-2), Ashton Adams (1-for-5) and Brayden Branham (0-for-1, 1 RBI) each contributed at the plate for the Tigers in the victory.

On the mound for Paintsville, Miller pitched six innings and earned the win.

Miller, James and Taylor each homered for the Tigers.

Paintsville topped Centerburg (Ohio) 8-3 at the Cal Ripken Experience on Friday, April 2.

The Tigers plated eight runs on five hits.

Gunner Collins led Paintsville at the plate, finishing 1-for-2 with three RBIs.

Ashton Miller finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs for the Tigers.

Corey Jefferson, Griffin Collins and Harris Phelps also added one hit apiece for Paintsville in the win. Jefferson drove in one run.

Gunner Collins doubled for the Tigers while his younger brother, Griffin Collins, legged out a triple.

Paintsville pitcher Zach Taylor earned the win on the mound. Taylor recorded 11 strikeouts in five innings.
