Newsome wins Mid-South Conference title

BOWLING GREEN — University of Pikeville standout Boo Newsome earned medalist honors at the Mid-South Conference Women's Fall Tournament at Bowling Green Country Club on Saturday, Oct. 31.
Newsome, a Martin County High School graduate, carded a two-round score of 150 (72-78). The Martin County native was one of two golfers to shoot 2-under on par fives throughout the tournament and tallied the second-most birdies with five.
Cumberlands captured the MSC Women's Golf Fall Tournament title.
The Patriots took home the team title with a total score of 634 (316-318). Cumberlands' 318 was the lowest score of any team in the second round. Cumberland (Tenn.) and Lindsey Wilson tied for second with a 641.
Campbellsville finished fourth with a score of 654, Pikeville placed fifth with a score of 697 and Georgetown totaled a score of 701 to place sixth.
Thomas More finished with a 723 in seventh place and Freed-Hardeman was one spot behind them shooting 754. Shawnee State and Martin Methodist rounded out the team standings with scores of 770 and 772, respectively.
Cumberland's Raquel Romero Valverde finished runner-up with a 154 (77-77), Cumberlands' Viviane Braun and Lindsey Wilson's Zofia Wojcik tied for third with a score of 156, and Cumberlands' Carlee Shoemaker rounds out the top-five with a 157.
The rest of the top-10 includes (T6) Lucia Pena (Cumberlands), (T6) Emma Hermansson (Cumberland), (T8) Gracie Parrott (Campbellsville), (T8) Pilar Scenna (Cumberland) and (10) Malene Clausen (Lindsey Wilson).
