PAINTSVILLE - Johnson Central rushed past host Clay County 49-6 in a Class 4A, District 8 football game on Friday, Oct. 2.The win allowed Johnson Central to move to 3-0 overall and open 1-0 in Class 4A, District 8.Johnson Central head coach Jim Matney recorded his 300th career win. The top team in Class 4A, Johnson Central claimed its 18th straight win. The Golden Eagles have advanced to five Class 4A state title games. Johnson Central took control early, putting the game out of Clay County's reach in the first half. Johnson Central rushed 27 times for 371 yards and seven touchdowns. Leading Johnson Central on the ground, Dylan Preston rushed four times for 112 yards and three touchdowns. Mason Lawson followed on the ground for Johnson Central, rushing twice for 69 yards and one touchdown. Blayden Sexton (five carries for 52 yards) and quarterback Grant Rice added one rushing touchdown apiece for the Golden Eagles. Ranking third in rushing for Johnson Central, Chase Price rushed two times for 61 yards. Johnson Central featured 11 different rushers with positive yardage. Through the air for Johnson Central, Rice completed both of his pass attempts for 62 yards to receiver Toby Spriggs. Kicker Austin Ratliff paced Johnson Central on special teams, connecting on all seven of his PAT attempts. Delivering on the defensive side for Johnson Central, Mason Lemaster and Zack McCoart paced Johnson Central with six tackles apiece. Active in the Golden Eagle secondary, Jake Cain and Cameron Wright recorded one interception each. Johnson Central is scheduled to host Perry County Central for its home opener on Friday, Oct. 9.
