Martin County teams to compete in WYMT Mountain Classic

HAZARD – The Martin County High School boys' and girls' basketball teams are among the squads in the field for the 34th Annual WYMT Food City Mountain Baketball Classic. The Cardinals captured the 15th Region championship in March but were unable to compete in the Boys' Sweet 16 after the annual event was canceled due to the coronavirus. The teams participating in the 34th Annual WYMT Food City Mountain Basketball Classic, presented by Kentucky Farm Bureau and sponsored by ARH, were announced May 1. The tournament will feature eight boys' basketball teams and six girls' hoops teams. The 34th annual tournament will be held from Monday, December 7- Saturday, December 12 at Perry County Central High School. The boys' basketball teams in the field for the upcoming Mountain Classic are Martin County, Betsy Layne, Buckhorn, Harlan County, Hazard, Knott County Central, Knox Central and Wolfe County. Hazard is the tournament's reigning boys' champion. The girls' basketball teams in the field for the 2020 Mountain Classic are Martin County, South Laurel, Floyd Central, Knott County Central, North Laurel and Owsley County. South Laurel is the tournament's reigning girls' champion. Boys' and girls' high school basketball teams are scheduled to open preseason practice in mid-October.
