Martin County-Lawrence County scrimmage slated for Aug. 5

LOUISA — Longtime rivals Martin County and Lawrence County are slated to meet for a preseason high school football matchup on Friday, Aug. 5.
Lawrence County is scheduled to host Martin County for its first scrimmage in the 2022 high school football preseason.
The Bulldogs and Cardinals did not meet during the 2021 high school football season.
A member of Class 3A, District 8, Lawrence County ended the 2021 high school football season 8-4. The Allan Short-coached Bulldogs finished runner-up to eventual state champion Belfry in Class 3A, District 8 in 2021.
Martin County, a member of Class 2A, District 8, ended the 2021 high school football season 8-5. The Josh Muncy-coached Cardinals finished runner-up to West Carter in Class 2A, District 8 in 2021.
High school football teams from throughout the state are preparing for preseason openers later in the week.
Both Martin County and Lawrence County opened preseason practice following the conclusion of the KHSAA Dead Period in July. Each Eastern Kentucky high school football team is scheduled to kick off its 2022 season on Friday, Aug. 19. Martin County is matched up against visiting Leslie County in its season opener. Lawrence County is due to visit Harrison County for its first game in the 2022 high school football season.
