Magoffin County knocks off Prestonsburg 34-6

PRESTONSBURG — Magoffin County knocked off homestanding Prestonsburg 34-6 in a high school football season opener on Friday, Aug. 27.
The Hornets and Blackcats met after being idle during the opening week of the 2021 high school football season.
Senior quarterback Lucas Litteral led Magoffin County to the win over Prestonsburg. Litteral completed 10 of 19 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Leading Magoffin County through the air and on the ground, Litteral rushed six times for 70 yards and one touchdown.
In addition to Litteral reaching the endzone on the ground, Grayson Whitaker and Aden Barnett added one rushing touchdown apiece for the Hornets.
Magoffin County rushed 22 times for 130 yards and three touchdowns.
Barnett led Magoffin County in receiving, hauling in two receptions for 114 yards and one touchdown in the victory.
On the receiving end of Litteral's other scoring strike, Russell Cruz hauled in a 29-yard touchdown pass reception for the Hornets.
Kajun Williams (14 tackles), Gavin Phipps (13 tackles) and Curtis Jenkins (13 tackles) combined to lead Magoffin County's defensive unit.
Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Knott County Central on Friday, Sept. 3.
In another game scheduled for Friday, Sept. 3, Prestonsburg is slated to visit Phelps.
