Lawrence County upends Greenup County

GREENUP — Lawrence County upended Greenup County in a late-season girls’ high school basketball game, winning 57-49 on Thursday, Feb. 15.

Claiming its fifth win in six games, Lawrence County 45.1 percent (23-of-51) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs made three of 14 three-point field goal attempts.

Lawrence County shot 57.1 percent (eight-of-14) from the free throw line.

Sophie Adkins poured in a game-high 28 points to lead Lawrence County to the win. Adkins made 10 of 12 two-point field goal attempts.

Narrowly missing double figures for Lawrence County, Jada Patton and Kaison Ward netted nine points apiece.

Chipping in offensively, Abby Nelson (four points), Abby Maynard (four points) and Madison Artrip (three points) were Lawrence County’s other scorers.

Productive inside, Adkins and Ward each claimed six rebounds.

Lawrence County 62, Shelby Valley 47: Lawrence County pulled away to defeat Shelby Valley 62-47 in Robinson Creek on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

Winning convincingly, Lawrence County shot 54.1 percent (20-of-37) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs shot 31.2 percent (five-of-16) from three-point range.

Lawrence County shot 91 percent (18-of-21) from the free throw line.

Sophie Adkins scored a game-high 20 points to lead Lawrence County to the win. Shooting 100 percent from the foul line, Adkins made all 11 of her free throw attempts during the matchup.

Accompanying Adkins in double figures for Lawrence County, Jada Patton scored 18 points and Kaison Ward netted 12 points.

Three other scorers, Abby Nelson (six points), Leandra Curnutte (three points) and Madison Artrip (three points), chipped in offensively for the Lady Bulldogs.
