LOUISA — Lawrence County swept the 15th Region boys’ and girls’ tennis championships on Thursday, May 18.

The Lawrence County girls’ tennis team captured its sixth straight region title.

Kennedy Gauze claimed the 15th Region girls’ singles title, defeating Magoffin County’s Makinna Caudill 6-2, 6-1 in the finals.

Gauze beat Shelby Valley’s Chloe Sykes 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinals of the 15th Region Girls’ Tennis Tournament.

The Lawrence County girls’ doubles team of Riley McClanahan and TK Ellis managed to reach the semifinals before losing.

The Lawrence County boys’ tennis team captured its first 15th Region title since 2019.

Eighth grader Chase Kendrick led the Bulldogs, winning the 15th Region boys’ tennis singles title. Kendrick beat teammate Blake Maynard 6-0, 6-3 in the boys’ singles title match.

The Lawrence boys’ doubles team of Alex DeSario and Cayden Sweeney lost in the semifinals.

The Lawrence County tennis players will compete in the KHSAA Tennis State Tournament in Lexington starting May 30.
