Lawrence County drops game to Pikeville

LOUISA — In a girls’ high school basketball matchup between 15th Region rivals, Pikeville pulled away to defeat Lawrence County 67-49 on Thursday, Jan. 2.

Pikeville shot 39.7 percent (25-of-63) from the field. The Lady Panthers shot 50.0 percent (five-of-10) from three-point range.

Pikeville shot 80.0 percent (12-of-15) from the free throw line.

Controlling the backboards, Pikeville outrebounded Lawrence County 30-18.

Kylie Alvin scored a game-high 23 points for Pikeville, which notched its third straight win.

Leighan Jackson recorded a double-double for Pikeville, scoring 17 points and hauling in 12 rebounds.

Joining Alvin and Jackson in double figures, Nicole Lin netted 14 points for the Lady Panthers.

Contributing to the win, Catharine Walters (six points), Daegan Oliver (three points), Ava Rogers (two points) and Sophie Woods (two points) accounted for the rest of Pikeville’s scoring.

Lawrence County shot 35.6 percent (16-of-45) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs shot 37.5 percent (six-of-16) from three-point range.

Lawrence County shot 68.8 percent (11-of-16) from the free throw line.

Sophie Adkins scored a team-high 20 points for Lawrence County in the matchup. Adkins is among the top girls’ high school basketball players in the 15th Region.

Along with Adkins reaching double figures for Lawrence County, Maddison Artrip netted 11 points.

Chipping in offensively, Emalynn Kitts (six points), Jada Patton (six points), Gracie Woods (three points), Caroline See (two points) and Lilly Fitzpatrick (one points) also provided scoring for the Lady Bulldogs.
