Lawrence County defeats Pike County Central 67-47

LOUISA — Returning to the win column, Lawrence County defeated Pike County Central 67-47 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Friday, Dec. 1.

After registering the win, Lawrence County improved to 2-1.

Lawrence County shot 35.8 percent (24-of-67) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs made seven of 27 three-point field goal attempts.

Productive offensively, Lawrence County shot 85.7 percent (12-of-14) from the free throw line in its 20-point win.

Sophie Adkins scored 18 points to lead Lawrence County to the victory.

Following Adkins in Lawrence County’s scoring column, Leandra Curnutte scored 15 points.

Accompanying Adkins and Curnutte in double figures for Lawrence County, Kaison Ward netted 11 points.

Lawrence County received scoring from 10 different players. Abby Nelson (six points), Jada Patton (four points), Hallie Adkins (four points), Abby Maynard (three points), Madison Artrip (three points), Gabrielle Stinnett (two points) and Addison Bloomfield (one point) provided Lawrence County’s additional scoring.

Delivering inside, Adkins and Ward each hauled in six rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.

Pike County Central shot 39.1 percent (18-of-46) from the field. Struggling offensively, Pike County Central finished 0-for-9 from three-point range.

Pike County Central shot 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the free throw line.

Hannah May scored a game-high 24 points for Pike County Central in the matchup. May was the only Pike County Central player to reach double figures in scoring.

The other scorers for Pike County Central were Abigail Hess (eight points), Lindsey Bowman (seven points), Abby May (three points), Layla Johnson (two points), Cydney Snodgrass (two points) and Maggie Cochran (one point).
