Lady Bulldogs defeat Prestonsburg for district win

PRESTONSBURG — Defending champion Lawrence County pulled away to defeat Prestonsburg 67-36 in a 58th District girls’ basketball game on Friday, Dec. 15.

Lawrence County shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs made seven of 27 three-point field goal attempts.

Lawrence County connected on four of six free throw attempts in its win.

Continuing to lead Lawrence County, junior guard Sophie Adkins scored a game-high 20 points. Adkins made seven of 10 two-point field goal attempts and was the only Lawrence County player to reach double figures in scoring.

Narrowly missing double figures for Lawrence County, Leandra Curnutte and Kaison Ward netted nine points apiece.

Aiding the visiting team in the 58th District girls’ basketball game, Jada Patton (seven points), Hallie Adkins (seven points), Abby Nelson (five points), Madison Artrip (five points), Jenna Murphy (three points) and Abby Maynard (two points) contributed to Lawrence County’s win as additional scorers.

Following the win, Lawrence County improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the 58th District.
