Lady Bulldogs capture 58th District title; Lawrence County shuts out Floyd Central

STANVILLE — Lawrence County is still the top softball team in the 58th District.

Under the direction of Coach Sam Sparks, Lawrence County shut out Floyd Central 15-0 in three innings in the 58th District Softball Tournament championship game at Betsy Layne on Tuesday, May 19.

Taylor Blevins earned the win in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs. Blevins, who was named the 58th District Softball Player of the Year, pitched a two-hit shutout and logged two strikeouts.

Whitley Hall started in the circle for Floyd Central and suffered the loss. Along with Hall, Maddy Engle pitched for the Lady Jaguars.

Lawrence County scored 15 runs on 14 hits, Blevins (two hits, one RBI), Emalynn Kitts (three hits, seven RBIs), Jada Patton (two hits, four RBIs), Aleaha Gillispie (two hits, two RBIs), Lexi Crum (two hits, one RBI), Brinley Baisden (one hit), Ella Smith (one hit) and Addalyn Woods (one hit) were each productive at the plate in Lawrence County’s 15-run win. Kitts drilled three home runs for the Lady Bulldogs. As part of an outstanding offensive performance, Kitts connected for her 100th career hit and a grand slam.

Lawrence County excelled throughout the 58th District Softball Tournament, outscoring its two opponents 31-1 in seven innings.

Both Lawrence County (20-12) and Floyd Central (19-12) advanced to the 15th Region Softball Tournament, which is being held at StoneCrest. Lawrence County is the reigning 15th Region softball champion.
