ASHLAND — Johnson Central pulled away to defeat Scott (W.Va.) 17-5 in five innings in the Tri-State Showcase at Boyd County High School on Saturday, April 17.

Maddie Vaughn was the winning pitcher for the Eagles. Vaughn pitched three and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks while recording two strikeouts.

Emily Adkins led Johnson Central at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with seven RBIs. Adkins drilled two home runs for Johnson Central in the victory.

In addition to Adkins, Abigail Williams (3-for-4, three RBIs), Clara Blair (2-for-3, four RBIs), Mayson Delong (1-for-2, one RBI) and Macy Conley (1-for-2, one RBI) contributed at the plate for the Eagles in the win over the opponent from West Virginia.

The current 15th Region frontrunner, Johnson Central won one of three games in the Tri-State Showcase. Johnson Central dropped games to two other opponents from West Virginia during the Boyd County-hosted high school softball event.

In other results from the Tri-State Showcase it was Nitro (W.Va.) 1, Johnson Central 0 and Lincoln County (W.Va.) 16, Johnson Central 10.
