Johnson Central, Lawrence County ranked 1, 2 in 15th Region

LEXINGTON — Reigning champion Johnson Central and Lawrence County are ranked 1 and 2, respectively, in the preseason 15th Region softball poll.

Kentucky Prep Softball released the poll, which features several area teams.

Pikeville (3), Shelby Valley (4), Belfry (5), Pike County Central (6), Magoffin County (7), Martin County (8), Floyd Central (9) and Jenkins (10) complete the Preseason 15th Region Softball Poll.

Johnson Central rolled to the 15th Region softball championship in 2021. The Lady Eagles shut out Pikeville 10-0 in six innings in the 2021 15th Region Softball Tournament title game.

Following a loss to Boyle County in the opening round of the KHSAA Softball Tournament, Johnson Central exited the 2021 season 33-7. Johnson Central is the defending champion in both the 57th District and the 15th Region.

The Lady Eagles are scheduled to host Bath County for a season opener at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 19.

Lawrence County is the reigning 58th District champion. After falling to Pikeville in the semifinals of the 15th Region Softball Tournament, Lawrence County exited the 2021 season 28-7.

The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to host Raceland for a season opener on Monday, March 14.

Lawrence County is slated to host Johnson Central for an early-season showdown on Monday, March 21.
