JCHS claims back-to-back wins in Carolina tournament

CHARLESTON, S.C. — After dropping its opening game, Johnson Central claimed back-to-back wins in the Carolina Invitational.
A look at Johnson Central’s three-game stint in the Carolina Invitational follows.
Johnson Central 62,
Greenbrier East (W.Va.) 43
Johnson Central pulled away to defeat Greenbrier East (W.Va.) 62-43 in the final round of the Carolina Invitational on Friday, Dec. 30.
Turning in a solid performance, Johnson Central shot 48.7 percent (19 of 39) from the field. The Lady Eagles shot 41.2 percent (seven of 17) from three-point range.
Johnson Central shot 70.8 percent (17 of 24) from the free throw line.
Kaylyn McKenzie and Taylor McKenzie scored 19 points apiece to lead Johnson Central to the win.
Three Johnson Central players reached double figures in scoring as Becca Wright added 14 points.
Rounding out Johnson Central’s individual scoring, Sophie Younce and Haylee Marsillett chipped in six points and four points, respectively.

Stall (S.C.) 26
Johnson Central defeated Stall (S.C.) 43-26 in the second round of the Carolina Invitational on Thursday, Dec. 29.
The Lady Eagles shot 65.2 percent (15 of 23) from the free-throw line in the win.
Taylor McKenzie poured in a game-high 24 points to lead Johnson Central to the victory.
Haylee Marsillett (five points), Kaylyn McKenzie (four points), Becca Wright (four points), Abbie Stambaugh (four points) and Sophie Younce (two points) followed Taylor McKenzie in scoring for the Lady Eagles.
Cane Bay (S.C.) 53,
Johnson Central 51
Johnson Central suffered a setback in the opening round of the Carolina Invitational as Cane Bay (S.C.) held on to win 53-51 on Wednesday, Dec. 28.
The Lady Eagles managed to shoot 50 percent (18-of-36) from the field in the short effort. Johnson Central shot 38.9 percent (seven of 18) from three-point range.
The Lady Eagles shot 57.1 percent (eight of 14) from the free-throw line.
Johnson Central received double figures scoring from two different players. Taylor McKenzie scored 18 points for Johnson Central while Kaylyn McKenzie netted 16 points.
Becca Wright (seven points), Haylee Marsillett (six points), Abbie Stambaugh (two points) and Sophie Younce (two points) provided Johnson Central’s additional scoring in the opening round game.
