PIKEVILLE — Anthony Houk arrived on the University of Pikeville campus as a student in 2018, became a graduate assistant coach after completing his bachelor’s degree and now has joined the staff fulltime.

Corey Fipps, University of Pikeville Director of Athletics, and Cody Andreychuk, UPike head baseball coach, have announced the addition of Houk to the baseball staff.

“Anthony is an incredibly hard worker who has been an amazing addition to our staff,” said Andreychuk. “He quickly made himself a valuable asset to our staff and we’re thankful to be able to add him to our fulltime staff.

“He’ll be tremendous for us in baseball and will prove to be invaluable to the athletics department as a whole. We’re thankful to our administration that they continue to support our program with moves like this.”

Houk was the Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year in 2019 when he had 42 hits and drove in 41 runs in 42 games.

“I’ve been at UPike a long time now, and this really means a lot to me,” said Houk. “I’ve been here and part of this family for several years now. I hope the coaches and administration here understand how special this is for me.”

Houk is a native of Mount Vernon and a graduate of Rockcastle County High School.

Houk, who serves as first base coach among many other duties with the Bears, will lead a rebirth of the junior varsity baseball team. He will serve as the head coach of that team.
