Golden Eagles turn back Bulldogs

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central held on to defeat Lawrence County 11-9 on Friday, April 18.

The Golden Eagles battled back from behind to claim the victory.

Lawrence County outscored Johnson Central 8-3 in the opening inning but was held to one run over its last six at-bats.

Kaleb Callaham pitched four innings in relief for Johnson Central and earned the win on the mound. Callaham recorded three strikeouts.

Along with Callaham, Dalton Boner pitched in relief for the Golden Eagles. Boner pitched two and one-third innings.

Kyle Rose started on the mound for Johnson Central and pitched the first two-thirds of an inning.

Boedy Maynard pitched two innings in relief for Lawrence County and took the loss. Maynard posted three strikeouts.

Logan Whisenant started on the mound for Lawrence County and pitched three and one-third innings.

In addition to Maynard, Gray Derifield pitched in relief for the Bulldogs.

Johnson Central scored 11 runs on nine hits. A diverse offensive attack for Johnson Central featured Boner (one hit, four RBIs), Chase Preece (two hits, four RBIs), Braxton Perry (two hits), Kaden Litteral (one hit, two RBIs), Kyler Callaham (one hit), Alex Marcum (one hit) and Mason McKenzie (one hit). Boner, Preece and Litteral each homered for the Golden Eagles.

Lawrence County plated nine runs on seven hits. Maynard (two hits, two RBIs), Derifield (one hit, one RBI), Eli Fletcher (two hits, three RBIs), Colin Howard (one hit, two RBIs) and Tyger Cavins (one hit) were Lawrence County’s offensive leaders.
