PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central is tabbed second in the Courier-Journal’s Preseason Class 4A Coaches’ Poll.

The Golden Eagles is listed behind reigning champion Boyle County in the preseason rankings.

Two-time state champion Johnson Central is ranked ahead of Franklin County (3), Central (4), Corbin (5), Lexington Catholic (6), Logan County (7), Bourbon County (8), Hopkinsville (9) and Spencer County (10) in the Class 4A Coaches’ Poll.

Boyle County beat Johnson Central 30-13 in the 2021 Class 4A state title game.

Scott, Letcher County Central, Rowan County, John Hardin, Allen County-Scottsville, Boyd County, Holmes, Warren East, Franklin-Simpson and Harrison County also received votes for the preseason Class 4A poll.

Johnson Central’s 2022 schedule consists of games versus Lafayette, Fern Creek, North Laurel, Ironton (Ohio), Waverly (Ohio), Clay County, Perry County Central, Harlan County, Letcher County Central and Belfry. The Golden Eagles are slated to face Lafayette in a season opener on Friday, Aug. 19.
