Golden Eagles shut out Letcher County Central 50-0

PAINTSVILLE — Reigning champion Johnson Central continued to roll in the second round of the Class 4A UK Orthopaedics/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl on Friday, Nov. 27, shutting out visiting Letcher County Central 50-0.

Johnson Central moved to 9-0 after registering the win.

Letcher County Central ended its season 6-2 as a result of the loss.

The Golden Eagles separated themselves from Letcher County Central early. Host Johnson Central led 29-0 at halftime.

Johnson Central rushed 37 times for 448 yards and seven touchdowns in the win.

Senior athlete Dylan Preston rushed 13 times for 211 yards and three touchdowns for the Golden Eagles.

Mason Lawson, a sophomore running back, rushed nine times for 93 yards as Johnson Central won handily.

Juniors Grant Rice and fullback Matt Crum added one rushing touchdown apiece for the Golden Eagles. Rice, a quarterback/defensive back, rushed five times for 90 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, Johnson Central limited Letcher County Central to 80 yards of total offense.

Chase Price recorded a team-high eight tackles for the Golden Eagles.

Providing Johnson Central with a lift from his position in the secondary, Jacob Cain recorded two interceptions.

Reece Goss, another member of the Golden Eagles' secondary, added one interception.

Johnson Central is scheduled to host Corbin in the third round of the Class 4A UK Orthopaedics/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl on Friday, Dec. 4.
