Golden Eagles roll past Phelps 76-40

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central rolled past Phelps in a boys' high school basketball regular season finale, winning 76-40 on Thursday, March 11.
Current 15th Region frontrunner Johnson Central shot 43.1 percent (28-of-65) from the field. The Golden Eagles were 14-of-38 (36.8 percent) from three-point range.
Johnson Central shot 60 percent (6-of-10) from the free throw line.
Kamen Slone and Connor Lemaster scored nine points apiece to lead Johnson Central to the win. Following the team's co-leading scorers, Mason Lawson and Reece Collins chipped in seven points apiece for the Golden Eagles.
Lawson was Johnson Central's top rebounder, grabbing eight rebounds.
Phelps shot 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the field. The Hornets shot 70 percent (7-of-10) from 3-point range.
Phelps shot 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from the free throw line.
Eric Daniels paced Phelps, scoring a team-high 14 points for the Hornets. Accompanying Daniels in double figures for Phelps, Jaeshon Nugent netted 10 points.
Johnson Central and Phelps, 15th Region rivals, met for the first time in the 2020-21 boys' high school basketball season.
The Golden Eagles remained in the win column after beating Betsy Layne 74-61 on the road two days earlier.
