Golden Eagles roll past Henry Clay 60-21

LEXINGTON — Johnson Central rolled past host Henry Clay 60-21 in the Mingua Beef Jerky Bowl on Friday, Aug. 20.

The Golden Eagles scored first in the high school football season opener and never trailed. Johnson Central led 44-7 at halftime.

The Golden Eagles thrived on the ground, rushing 47 times for 392 yards and five touchdowns. Eight different players rushed for positive yardage in the Golden Eagles' victory.

Zack McCoart led Johnson Central's offensive attack, rushing 11 times for 104 yards and two touchdowns.

Following McCoart, Mason Lawson rushed 11 times for 102 yards in the Golden Eagles' victory.

Matt Crum and Chase Price added one rushing touchdown piece for the Golden Eagles. Crum rushed six times for 55 yards and one TD.

Delivering through the air for Johnson Central, quarterback Grant Rice completed two of four passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns.

Jacob Cain hauled in two receptions for 88 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Golden Eagles in receiving.

Defensively for Johnson Central, Lawson record an interception and returned the picked-off pass 71 yards.

Adding another touchdown for the Golden Eagles, Carter Conley recovered a fumble in the endzone.

The Golden Eagles are scheduled to visit Lexington Catholic for the Bluegrass Bowl on Friday, Aug. 27. Kickoff for the Johnson Central-Lexington Catholic football game is set for 8:45 p.m.
