LOUISA — Lawrence County rushed past visiting Harrison County 42-7 in a high school football season opener at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium on Friday, Aug. 20.
The Bulldogs kicked off the 2021 high school football season following a shortened previous gridiron campaign.
Lawrence County scored first and never trailed in the high school football season opener.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Lawrence County scored two touchdowns in the second period to lead 14-0 at halftime.
The Bulldogs gradually pulled away to defeat Harrison County convincingly. Lawrence County added two touchdowns in each of the last two quarters.
Quarterback Alex Strickland led Lawrence County to the win, rushing 10 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns.
Following Strickland on the ground for Lawrence County, running back Dylan Ferguson rushed 12 times for 66 yards and one touchdown. Ferguson paced Lawrence County in rushing during the 2020 high school football season.
Aiding Lawrence County's offensive attack, Blue Fletcher, Douglas Hall and Ryan Marcum each delivered one rushing touchdown for the Bulldogs. Fletcher rushed six times for 36 yards and one TD.
As a team, Lawrence County rushed 35 times for 267 yards.
Defensively, Lawrence County limited Harrison County to 181 yards of total offense.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to visit familiar rival Greenup County on Friday, Aug. 27. Kickoff for the Lawrence County-Greenup County football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
