Golden Eagles roll past Harrison County

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central rolled past Harrison County 48-16 in the opening round of the KHSAA Class 4A State Football Playoffs at Coach Jim Matney Field on Thursday, Nov. 6.

Perennial title contender Johnson Central, which moved to 11-0 after registering the win, scored first and never trailed. The Golden Eagles led 41-0 at halftime.

Johnson Central rushed 21 times for 410 yards and five touchdowns. The Golden Eagles benefitted from a diverse rushing attack.

Brennon Daniels led the Golden Eagles on the ground, rushing two times for 130 yards and one touchdown.

In addition to Daniels, Logan Music, Logan Morrow, Grayson Cochran and Maddox Bryant each scored one rushing touchdown for the Golden Eagles.

Johnson Central scored via the ground and through the air. Quarterback Austin Slone paced Johnson Central through the air, completing each of his three pass attempts for 44 yards and two touchdowns. JD Morris and Carter Hunt each hauled in one touchdown pass reception for the Golden Eagles.  

Dylan Lemaster paced Johson Central defensively, recording 10 tackles and two tackles for losses.

District 6 Champion Johnson Central is scheduled to host Covington Catholic in the second round of the KHSAA Class 4A State Football Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 14. The Johnson Central-Covington Catholic game is slated to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
