Golden Eagles lose shootout to Redhounds

PAINTSVILLE — Corbin held on to defeat Johnson Central 56-51 at Coach Jim Matney Field on Friday, Oct. 4.

Following the loss, Johnson Central dropped to 5-2.

Corbin improved to 5-1 after posting the win.

Quarterback Kade Elam led Corbin (5-1) to the victory. Through the air, Elam completed 18 passes for 421 yards and six touchdowns. On the ground, Elam rushed 10 times for 242 yards and two touchdowns.

Noah Cima hauled in six receptions for 146 yards and two touchdowns in the Redhounds’ win.

Contributing to Corbin’s aerial attack, Colton Creekmore added five receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

Cam Estep reeled in four receptions for 104 yards and one touchdown for the Redounds.

Also reaching the endzone, Eli Pietrowski added one touchdown reception in Corbin’s victory.

Johnson Central rushed 69 times for 628 yards and seven touchdowns. Zack McCoart led Johnson Central, rushing 40 times for 415 yards and four touchdowns.

Following McCoart in Johnson Central’s offensive attack, Logan Music rushed 12 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns.

Aiding Johnson Central on the ground, Christian Barnes rushed 14 times for 86 yards.

Behind Barnes, Logan Morrow rushed two times for eight yards and one touchdown for the Golden Eagles.

Defensively for Johnson Central, Seth Davis recorded a team-high 13 tackles, two tackles for losses, two sacks and one interception.

Class 4A rivals, Johnson Central and Corbin met for a non-district game.

Johnson Central is scheduled to host Rowan County for a Class 4A, District 6 matchup on Friday, Oct. 11.
