Golden Eagles looking to complete schedule

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central is still looking for an opponent to fill out its schedule for the 2020 high school football season. Currently, Johnson Central has the date of Friday, Sept. 18 open.
The Golden Eagles, under the direction of head coach Jim Matney and his coaching staff, captured the 2019 KHSAA Class 4A state championship. Johnson Central ended the 2019 high school football season 15-0. The Golden Eagles are slated to open the 2020 season at Bell County on September 11. Johnson Central has additional regular-season season games slated versus Simon Kenton (Away, Sept. 25), Clay County (Away, Oct. 2), Perry County Central (Home, Oct. 9), Harlan County (Away, Oct. 16), Letcher County Central (Home, Oct. 23), Belfry (Home, Oct. 30) and Bourbon County (Away, Nov. 6). Reigning state champion Johnson Central is ranked first in the CalPreps.com Preseason Class 4A Rankings. The Golden Eagles outlasted Boyle County 21-20 in the 2019 KHSAA Class 4A title game at Kroger Field in Lexington. Johnson Central outscored opponents 677-155 during the 2019 high school football season. One of the top high school football programs in Kentucky, Johnson Central has reached five consecutive Class 4A state title games. The Golden Eagles are due to open preseason practice on Monday, Aug. 24.
