Golden Eagles down Madison Central in Hutch Bowl, 28-21

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central downed Madison Central 28-21 in the Hutch Bowl at Coach Jim Matney Field on Friday, Aug. 18.

The Golden Eagles and Indians battled back and forth throughout the season opener. Johnson Central led 14-6 at halftime.

The Golden Eagles rushed 68 times for 333 yards and four touchdowns. Zack McCoart led Johnson Central on the ground, rushing six times for 94 yards.

Following McCoart on the ground in Johnson Central’s offensive effort, quarterback Jacob Grimm rushed four times for 57 yards and two touchdowns.

Behind McCoart, Logan Music rushed seven times for 50 yards as part of Johnson Central’s versatile rushing attack.

Christian Barnes and Logan Morrow, each of whom gained over 40 yards on the ground, added one rushing touchdown apiece for the Golden Eagles.

Picking up yardage through the air for Johnson Central, Grimm completed both of his pass attempts for 66 yards.

Dalton Matney led Johnson Central’s defensive effort, recording 12 tackles for the Golden Eagles.

Aiding Johnson Central defensively, Logan Castle added eight tackles and Ryan Rice contributed seven tackles. Rice recorded one and one-half sacks in Johnson Central’s win.

Johnson Central is scheduled to meet Pikeville in the Pike County Bowl on Saturday, Aug. 26. Kickoff for the Johnson Central-Pikeville game is set for 8 p.m.
