Golden Eagles defeat Wayne County 43-6

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central pulled away to defeat Wayne County 43-6 in the second round of the Class 4A UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals at Coach Jim Matney Field on Friday, Nov. 11.

After notching the win, Johnson Central advances to the third round of the Class 4A UK Healthcare Sports Medicine State Football Finals. Following the win, Johnson Central improved to 10-2.

The loss eliminated Wayne County from the Class 4A UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals. Wayne County finished the 2022 high school football season 8-4.

The Golden Eagles moved ahead during the opening quarter. Turning in a dominant performance, Johnson Central led 36-0 at halftime.

Johnson Central rushed 27 times for 294 yards and five touchdowns in the win.

Chase Price led Johnson Central’s balanced rushing attack, taking six carries for 99 yards and one touchdown.

Following Price on the ground for the Golden Eagles, Zack McCoart rushed seven times for 71 yards and two touchdowns.

Contributing offensively for Johnson Central, Mason Lawson and Logan Music added one rushing touchdown apiece. Lawson rushed five times for 65 yards to rank as Johnson Central’s third-leading rusher.

Defensively for Johnson Central, Ryan Rice recorded a team-high seven tackles while Music returned an interception 27 yards for a touchdown.

Johnson Central is scheduled to visit Corbin in the third round of the Class 4A UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals on Friday, Nov. 18.
