Floyd Central battles back to defeat Hazard 24-21

HAZARD — Floyd Central overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to defeat host Hazard 24-21 in the Bill Dixon Bowl at East Perry Elementary School on Saturday, Sept. 12. Hazard suffered the loss after leading 21-6 at halftime. Senior quarterback Caleb Hager led Floyd Central to the victory in the season opener, completing three of 10 passes for 99 yards and one touchdown. Hager, who threw one interception, rushed 15 times for 59 yards and three touchdowns in the Jaguars' win.Floyd Central rushed 36 times for 188 yards and three touchdowns. Jordan Akers led Floyd Central on the ground, rushing 12 times for 67 yards. Another running back, Bryce Thacker, rushed eight times for 45 yards in the Jaguars' winning effort. Brant Potter led Floyd Central in receiving, reeling in two receptions for 91 yards and one touchdown. Potter, who filled in for an injured Hager at quarterback for Floyd Central in 2019, completed one of three passes. Switching roles, Potter completed a 10-yard pass to Hager in the season opener.Floyd Central is scheduled to visit county rival Prestonsburg for its next game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18.
